MICRO WATCH ENDS CREDIT UNIONS REBRANDING CONFERENCE

The second edition of the Credit Union Rebranding Conference has ended at the Credit Union Training Center at Kasoa in the Central Region. It was themed; “Developing Innovative Brand for Credit Unions VIS-À-VIS the Ghanaian Financial Sector Challenges”.
Dr. Samuel Nana Yaw Simpson, lecturer at the University of Ghana and the current Chairman of the University of Ghana co-operative Credit Union streamlined the topic; “effective Corporate Governance within Credit Unions; the role of the Board and Manager”.
He emphasized the need for Credit Unions to evaluate their Board, Committee members and management periodically to ensure efficiency. Dr. Simpson called on all Cooperators to adopt ingenuity with focus on the policies and philosophy of the Credit Union.
The lecturer also emphasized on consensus building when making decisions pertaining to the welfare of Credit Unions.
Mr. Yaw Gyamfi of the Ghana Microfinance Institutions Network (GHAMFIN), mentioned that Board and management of Credit Unions should participate more in educational Programs to upgrade themselves. This he mentioned, is necessary for the development of Board and Committee members within the microfinance sector.
The information Technology Manager of Swedru Teachers Cooperative Credit Union, Blessed Addae Foh mentioned how their participation in the first edition of the Rebranding Conference has improved their operations and promoted membership growth tremendously.
Maame Afua Essel, a Digital Marketer at Vodafone Ghana also took participants through “Digital Marketing Strategies”. She engaged participants on how to build innovative brands using Digital Marketing Strategies that is likely to attract their targeted groups. She called on Credit Unions to make a giant leap in this regard.
Mr. Oduro Darko, the Credit Unions Ambassador and a former General Manager of CUA dealt with the topic; “improving media visibility of Credit Unions for membership growth” He also led group discussions to collate strategies to improve the visibility of Credit Unions.
Mr. Felix Duku a financial consultant also shared experiences and advice participants to maximize opportunities presented to them in all forms leveraging on technology.
Dalex Finance sponsored the program and they held a raffle which presented the winner a new Samsung phone.
